I am employed at the above hotel as a Security Officer and
have been for about 6 months. [Undisclosed material]
I have been asked by Police about a guest who stayed at
the hotel on 15th May, 1987 in the name of Daniel-EDWARDS.
On the 1st of May, 1987 the duty manager, Jenney O'LEARY,
brought a man of this name to my attention because he had
been acting in what was considered a strange way. It appears
he had Instructed her that no-one was to enter his room,
which was Room 587 on the fifth floor, even to make the
bed or to clean. [Undisclosed material]
At about 2.30pm the following day, I was handed a bullet,
by a member of staff, which had been found on the fifth
floor. I felt that because of Mr EDWARDS strange behaviour
the two may be connected. [Undisclosed material]
A police officer, Detective Sergeant WILLIAMS of the Hotel
Collation Unit was visiting the hotel on another matter
and I brought the events to his attention. I obtained EDWARDs'
registration card from the reception desk and took it to
the security office. There Det. Sgt. WILLIAMS caused a
number of enquiries to be made which showed the details
on the registration card to be false. [Undisclosed material]
Later Det. Sgt. WILLIAMS and others went to room 587 and
I understand spoke with Mr EDWARDS. [Undisclosed material]
At about 8.20pm Mr EDWARDS booked out of the hotel and left
in company with two youths aged about 16 years and two females
also aged about 16 years. [Undisclosed material]
From records held at the hotel I can say that a number of
telephone calls were made from Room 587 whilst Mr EDWARDS
was staying there and list them as follows:-
at: 1812 hours 010 357 2311273 (4 mins)
1959 hours 010 357 2497579 (2M 6 Sec)
2002 hours 441 2885 (3M 24 Sec)
2200 hours 730 8571 (54 Secs)
0050 hours 388 1288 (48 Secs)
0052 hours 484 5255 (3M 54 Secs)
These calls were made during the evening of the let May and early
morning of the 2nd May 1987. [Undisclosed material]
The details of these calls is held on a computer printout
which If required I can produce at court. I produce a copy
of a registration card In the name Daniel EDWARDS, Reservation
Number 394626, who gave the address of 4 Newport Road,
Cardiff, as exhibit MGA/1. The original can be produced
at court if required. [Undisclosed material]
I would describe Mr EDWARDS as being about 35 years of age,
about 5'8" in height, medium build, dark short hair, which
was thinning at the front, I would recognise him again.
A copy of his final bill I produce as exhibit MGA/2.
