I am self employed and proprietor of Grosvenor Limousine Services
which I operate from my home address. I have been running my
own company since September 1985.

Approximately 6 years ago whilst I was employed by Armalite Ltd
as Vehicle Road Tester I met Pan KOUPPARIS who at that time was
employed by Alcom Ltd. Armalite Ltd was until it folded in,
I think, 1982 a subsidiary of Alcom Ltd. I do not know what
position he held in that company. Both companies were involved
with Surity [sic] Systems and bullet proof cars. Armalite was situated
in Park Royal whilst Alcom was situated in Edgeware Road.
Although I left Armalite Ltd by choice, I kept in contact with Alcom
Ltd through it's Managing Director who is a personal friend.
After leaving Armalite Ltd in 1983 I didn't see or hear from Pan
KOUPPARIS until Thursday, 30th April 1987 or it may have been
the evening of Wednesday 29th April 1987. He telephoned me and
asked if I could pick him up on the Thursday at the Intercontinental
Hotel and drive him to various places. On Thursday 30th April
1987 I arrived at the hotel at 12 noon. We left the hotel at
1.15pm. I drove him to a Model Agency in the Kings Road (I think
286), it was just past Glebe Place. There we picked up a young lady
a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like and another man I took to be her
boy friend. I drove all three to a restaurant in St. Johns Wood,
N.W.8 arriving at 2.30pm. I later collected the three at 3.45pm
and drove them to an office near Russell Square. I think the office
was in Southampton Place. I later took the girl and her boy friend
to Chancery Lane tube station then returned to the office where Pan
paid me for four hours work. I charged him £44 but he gave me £50.
I got the impression through their conversation in the car that Pan
was trying to sell the girl for promotion work and it was their
first meeting.

Pan next contacted me on Tuesday 12th May 1987. He left a message
on my answer phone that he wished to speak to me, in fact he did
so at a friends restaurant later that evening. He asked me to
drive him to Penzance, Cornwall to be there for 9.30am 13th May
1987 for an appointment with a Solicitor. I told him that I was
already committed with another client and in fact it would cost him
a lot of money. It would be cheaper and quicker to travel by train.
Pan stated that he would make other arrangements.

Today Thursday 14th May 1987 Pan telephoned me again at home at 7am.
He asked me to pick him up at 8.30am at his mother's home. He
mentioned that he wanted to go to Milton Keynes and Beaconsfield
and asked if they were in the same direction so he could visit both
places in the one journey. He also asked me what time the shops
opened and what time the Embassies opened. I told him that the
shops in London open about 9am but didn't know what time the
Embassies open. He said that the Embassy was expecting him but he
didn't say which one. He then gave me directions to his Mother's
home a Council block of flats in Fenwick Road, East Dulwich.
However I didn't arrive at the flat until about 9.45. On arriving
at the flat, the door was opened by Pan's brother, who I took to
be about 16/17 years of age. Also in the flat was Pan's Wife, Mother
and young daughter. Pan, I was told by his wife was upstairs
using the telephone. I had been at the flat for about 20 minutes
before Pan came down and spoke to me. He then went back upstairs
to dress. We were about to leave when the telephone rang, Pan
returned upstairs to answer it, I didn't see a telephone in the hall
or the lounge. I finally left the flat at about 10.35am. Once
in the car he asked me to drive to the West End. He stated that he
wasn't going to Milton Keynes but he may want to go to Beaconsfield
later. He then immediately used my car phone to telephone a
Photographic Agency. He told them that he needed some passport
photographs and that he could introduce himself to that particular
company. I assume that the company refused because after finishing
the call he asked me if I knew where a photograph booth was. He
then said "I want to head for Park Street". I said "What end"
and he replied "The Oxford Street End". He then made another telephone
call, this time he spoke in Greek, however when introducing himself
he did not use the name KOUPPARIS, it sounded like GRIMALDI. I then
drove to Victoria British Rail Station and told him he could get
his photographs done from there. He stated that he wanted black
and white photographs of himself, I told him that I thought that
all the booths these days were in colour. He then borrowed three
pound coins and a fifty pence piece from me and walked into the
station. He returned to the car some 10-12 minutes later with three
strips of photographs (black and white). one strip he was wearing
his hat and glasses. one strip with just glasses and the third strip
was just of his plain face. We then drove off towards Park Street
once in Park Street he pointed out the Cypriot Embassy where he
wanted to go. so I parked just beyond the front door and Pan went
into the Embassy. On getting out of the car he said that he had
to sort his passport out. About 10 minutes later I was aware of
figures moving quickly about. I looked out of the car through the
rear window and noticed Pan being held against the railings of the
High Commission by three men. Then the driver's door of my car
was opened and the key was taken from the ignition by another man
who introduced himself as a Police Officer and showed me his
warrant card. I then was detained.
