Ref: A00-300995 Case No. 871626 Macpherson II
Volume XII, Pages 1-3, Friday, 30th June, 1989
(In the presence of the jury)
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: Mr. Temple, can we firstly deal with the
documents?
MR. TEMPLE: Certainly, my Lord.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: I have them in what I think is a
sensible order; shall I start?
MR. TEMPLE: Yes, that would be helpful.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: First of all there is the indictment;
will you put an "A" on that. Next there is the map of
Cyprus; I suggest you put a "B" on that. If any of you do
not find a document as we are doing it will you let me know?
Then there is the sketch plan of the first floor of 12
Strickland Court. Do you have that?
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: No.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: Never mind, we can forget that one.
Then there is the schedule of telephone calls and it sets out
all the calls with their times. That is document "C".
There is then the hotel guest history, which I think you were
given. It is the Mr. S. A. Miller guest history; that can be
"D". Then there is the search warrant which is headed
"Criminal form No. 6, search warrant. That is "E".
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: We haven't got the hotel bill. (Handed
to the jury)
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: It is not a bill but a registration
form. "E" is the warrant. "F" is Mr. Koupparis's own list
of the drugs he said he had taken. Yesterday we used the
letter to Mr. Melville and the preliminary report for the
department of Mr. Melville. Those are the parking scheme
documents.
This is where I do not want to cause confusion: there
is a summary of the telephone conversations given on tape,
which runs to 17 pages. That is "H". Then there are two
additional documents which follow that. First of all there
is a further summary of conversations made on tape which you
were given yesterday, and there is also a summary of
conversations made on tape. There are two.
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: Sorry, your Lordship, the one previous
to that I ---
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: The summary of conversations made on
tape, 17 pages, that is the first one you have; that is "H".
To follow that I think the order they should be given is
this: one is a summary of conversations made on tape, which
is 26 pages long. That should be "I". Then the third in
this series is a further summary of conversations made on
tape, which should be "J". That is headed "AD17, 2nd April".
That is those three. Then there are the admissions; have
the jury been given the admissions?
MR. BECKMAN: No, they have not.
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: We have two agreed conversations
between ---
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: Yes, that is right. The next one is a
two page document, agreed summaries of conversations between
Cambanella [sic] and Panayides; that is "K". Do you have anything
else?
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: The tape No. AD9.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: Yes, that is right. Tape AD9, 3.4.87,
that will be "L".
THE FOREMAN OF THE JURY: And another form which is Exhibit 151.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: Thank you. Can you call that "M". Is
there anything else you have, ladies and gentlemen? Does
that complete the listing of the documents? So that we have
no problems over this, can I ask both counsel if they agree
those are the ones which went in?
MR. HAMBLIN: Yes, my Lord.
MR. JUSTICE MACPHERSON: If I refer to them in my summing-up or
counsel refer to them, we will be able to refer to the
letters. You have your main exhibit bundle and I think that
completes your documentation. I hope you do not think that
was a waste of time. It seemed to me to be necessary to save
time.
(Mr. Temple addressed the jury on behalf of the prosecution)
(Mr. Beckman addressed the jury on behalf of the defendant)
(The trial was adjourned until Monday, 3rd July, 1989)
